Deepika Padukone beats Katrina Kaif to be the new heroine in Rajnikanth’s

'Kochadaiyaan'

The news is now official. After much speculation as to whom Rajinikanth will romance in his upcoming film 'Kochadaiyaan', his younger daughter Soundarya, who's directing the film, has finally broken the news on Twitter. Actor Deepika Padukone has been roped in to play the lead opposite the megastar.

Soundarya tweeted: "Guys. Deepika padukone confirmed to play appa s pair in Kochadaiyaan :) great to have you back with us @deepikapadukone :):) big hug!"

Earlier the team is said to have approached a few other Bollywood heroines including Katrina Kaif but Deepika, who had earlier been signed on for Rajinikanth's 'Rana' will now be seen in Kochadaiyaan as well.

Soundarya is also said to have roped in Tamil actress Sneha to play Rajinikanth's sister's role while actress Shobana and actor Aadhi will also play important roles. AR Rahman will compose the music while KS Ravikumar will supervise the direction.

The poster has Rajnikanth striking one of the poses of Lord Shiva, with long hair and a toned body. While some say he will be seen with an eight-pack avatar, others believe he will only have six-pack abs.

'Kochadaiyaan' is the name of a Pandya king. Kochadaiyaan is a hi-tech 3D film. This is the first time that a 3D film with performance capturing technology is being produced in India

It is worth mentioning that the all time box office hit 'Avatar' directed by James Cameron and 'The Adventures of Tintin' directed by Steven Spielberg have been produced with the same performance capturing technology in Hollywood.

KS Ravikumar has written the story, screenplay and dialogue. The film is produced by Eros International and Media one Global entertainment Limited. The work is progressing in a fast pace and is scheduled for release in August 2012. Rajinikanth would act in Rana following Kochadaiyaan in 2012.

Deepika Padukone has reportedly been signed as Rajnikanth’s new heroine in his daughter’s upcoming Tamil movie ‘Kochadaiyaan’.

The buzz recently doing the rounds was that Katrina Kaif, who was also keen on doing Soundarya’s film, was offered Rs.5 crore for the role.

However, the 26-year-old actress has confirmed her alliance with the new venture.

“I am eagerly looking forward to work with Rajni sir. It’s exciting news,” she said.

Katrina Kaif to romance Kamal Haasan in Thalaivan Irukkindran - Shankar Direction - AR Rahman Music Direction

Katrina Kaif for Kamal Hassan?

The actress is likely to be part of the project that well mark the return of the hit Shankar-ARR-Kamal trio.

Even as she's supposedly getting ready to shoot with the Superstar in Kochadaiyaan, it looks like the Chikni Chameli actress may also land a role opposite the Ulaganayagan. The latest buzz is that Bollywood hottie Katrina Kaif is being roped in for Aascar Ravichandran's magnum opus. His forthcoming venture with Kamal Haasan is said to be a film with the highest-budget ever in Kollywood. So will

Katrina choose both projects or pick one over the other is the big question.

A source reveals, "After finishing work on his dream project Viswaroopam, Kamal is all set to do a film for Ravichandran. The flick has been titled Thalaivan Irukkindran, and it will reportedly be made on a large scale in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam simultaneously. While Kamal, Prabhas and Mohanlal will star in the three versions, Hollywood superstar Jackie Chan will also be seen in an important role in this flick. Talks are on with a big Bollywood actress, supposedly Katrina, and if things work out, the film may be made in Hindi simultaneously as well." Interestingly, Thalaivan Irukkindran was the title Kamal had thought of for his earlier flick, Unnaipol Oruvan, in which he had shared screenspace with Mollywood star Mohanlal. The source further adds, "The makers are keen on getting director Shankar to direct this magnum opus. It looks like talks are on with A R Rahman as well to score the music for this largerthan-life movie."

Shankar has directed the Ulaganayagan earlier in his Indian, which set the BO on fire. The two were supposed to work again in Endhiran, but due to some unavoidable reasons, the combination didn't work out. Shankar finally made the film with Rajini and the rest is history. But now, looks like the hit combo of Shankar-Kamal-ARR is all set to rock the screen again! And if Katrina joins this team, we are sure to see some fireworks on-screen.
